Beer Braised Bratwurst

Beer Braised Bratwurst

Makes 10 brats Time: 30 minutes Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

  • 10 bratwursts
  • 2 (12-ounce) bottles of beer. Ale or lager works best.
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced
  • 2 green bell peppers, sliced
  • 2 red bell peppers, sliced
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 10 bratwurst buns, lightly toasted on griddle
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • Stone-ground or spicy brown mustard

 Directions

  1. Preheat your griddle to medium-high heat. Place a tin tray or a 9x13 cake pan on the griddle top. Make sure the pan does not have a non-stick coating on it.
  2. Pour the beer into the tray, add kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. This will create your braising liquid. Add onions and peppers to the mix.
  3. Let braising liquid come up to a low simmer for 5 minutes. Add bratwurst to the braising liquid and simmer for 5-6 minutes, turning once.
  4. Transfer brats, peppers, and onions from the pan to the griddle top. Cook brats on both sides until golden brown and cooked through. Cook peppers and onions on griddle, moving frequently with spatulas until vegetables are translucent and lightly browned.
  5. Serve the bratwurst on a toasted bun topped with onions, peppers, and mustard of choosing.
